Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is one of the most famous personalities in India and all over the world. His full name was Avul Pakir Zainulabaddin Abdul Kalam. On the one hand he was a simple man and on the other hand he was a man of sharp intellect. His achievements can be noticed in his scientific thought and action. This famous man was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu to a middle class family. His father's name was Zainulabddin Maracayar and his mother's name was Asiyamma.

He studied physics and aerospace engineering. For the next four decades he served as a researcher at DRDO and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). He was named as the Missile Man for his extraordinary achievements in missile research. He played a key role in the 1998 Pokhran-2 nuclear test.

In political life, APJ Abdul Kalam was elected as the 11th President of India in 2002. He is best known as the "President of the People" for his philanthropic work. Later he ended his political life and lived as an ordinary citizen. During this time he drew attention to education, writing and philanthropic work. He received several honorary awards for his notable achievements. He was also awarded the Bharat Ratna.

Unfortunately, on July 27, 2015, while giving a lecture at Indian Institute of Management, a reputed educational institution in Shillong, he died of a heart attack. He was 83 years old at the time of his death. On his death, people of all walks of life paid homage to him and he was buried with state honors at his birthplace Rameswaram.

Avul Pakir Zainulbadin Abdul Kalam (15 October 1931 - 27 July 2015) was an Indian astronaut who served as the eleventh President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was born and raised in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu and studied physics and space engineering.

He spent the next four decades as a scientist and science administrator, primarily in the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), and was intimately involved in India's civilian space program and efforts to develop military missiles. He thus became known as India's Missile Man for his work on ballistic missile development and the introduction of vehicle technology. He played an important organizational, technical and political role in India's 1998 Pokhran-2 nuclear test.

With the support of both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the then opposition Indian National Congress, Kalam was elected the eleventh President of India. Widely known as the "People's President", he returned to education, writing and public service in his civilian life after a single term. He has received multiple prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor.

While lecturing at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong, Kalam, at the age of 83, collapsed and died of a heart attack on July 27, 2015. Thousands of people, including national dignitaries, attended the funeral in his hometown of Rameshwaram. Finally, he was buried with full state honors.
