(No Internet Connection!)

Internet Blackout (No Internet Connection!)

We've heard the term 'internet blackout' which means ‘shutting down internet service’. According to various media reports published in the last few days, the Internet service is likely to be shut down around the world.

Those media reports claim that internet services will not be available on millions of computers, mobile devices, etc. from September 30.

👉  Why is the internet being blacked out?

In fact, IdentTrust DST Root CA X3 will expire on September 30, 2021 on many devices. This certificate encrypts a secure connection from one device to another. This certificate protects the device you are using and the data transferred to the World Wide Web. The advantage is that no one can steal data between the World Wide Web (www) and the data transfer between your devices.

Simply enough, if you see HTTPS at the beginning of a link on a web page, it means that the link is secure and an IdentTrust DST Root CA X3 certificate has been issued. Now the biggest question is, ‘will the validity of this certificate affect all devices or only for some devices?’ Let's take a look at the devices affected by this ‘Internet Blackout’.

👉  What is the effect of ‘Internet Blackout’?

According to a report from TechCrunch (an American Online Newspaper), this ‘Internet Blackout’ will affect a limited number of devices (computers, tablets, smartphones), etc. As a result, only devices that have not yet been updated will be affected. It will not affect new and updated devices.

    Internet Blackout (No Internet Connection!)

Speaking of smartphone or mobile internet users, the internet will not work on devices running Android 8.11 or earlier. At the same time, operating systems like iPhone, iPad, etc. running before iOS 10 will be affected. On the other hand, if we are talking about computer or PC, then MacOS 2016 and Windows XP (Server Pack 3) operating systems will be affected by OS users’ devices. Also, the Internet will not work on gaming consoles like PS3 and PS4 as well as BlackBerry devices.

👉  How to avoid ‘Internet Blackout’?

To avoid this problem, we can patch our smartphone, tablet, computer, etc. with the latest updates. Windows users visit their PC's control panel and check for the latest Windows updates frequently. At the same time, users of iMac, iPad and Apple devices should check for the latest updates in their operating system settings. Android users can verify and update the latest version of the phone's OS by going to their device's settings and tapping about the phone.
