The old father was very dissatisfied. One day he fell ill. She felt her end approaching. He made a plan to teach them a lesson so that the boys would be personally hurt.

He sent for his sons. He gave them a bundle of sticks to break. They tried to break the bundle one by one but no one could break it. Then the old man opened the bundle. He gave each of his sons a stick to break. Now everyone can easily break his stick.

The old man then said, “My loving sons, anyone can break a single stick. But no one can break a whole bundle. That is, if you are united, no one can harm you. Separation is the easy fall. So, all of you should always be united without quarreling. Sons, this is how you will learn something good and you will all be happy in the next life.”

Old Farmer and His Quarrelsome Sons - Story Writing

Once, an honest old farmer lived in a village. He had four sons. They liked to quarrel and quarreled among themselves all the time. So, no peace dwelt in their house. And it made the old man very anxious. One day the farmer requested his sons to bring some sticks to make a bundle. He told them to break the bundle. Instantly, they tried to do so one by another. But their endeavors were in vain.

Each of them told his father that it was impossible to break because the bundle was too strong. The farmer was a very wise man. He was chastened with the experience of reality. He told them, “All right. Now I will ask you to do something for me and you will do it please. His sons gave consent to do that very easily.

Then he opened the bundle. He then gave each of them a stick and asked them to break it. This time, each son was able to easily break each stick.

The boys were curious to know the reason for that. They all said to their father, “Dear Dad, why did you do this to us? What good is that? ”

Then the wise father said to his sons, “Wait a minute, my dear son. I'm clearing it for you." Now, the old farmer drew their attention to the bundle and the separate stick. He made them understood that it was impossible for anyone to break the whole bundle of sticks. But, it was very easy to break them, when they are kept separate.

He told them to learn a good lesson from this. The old peasants successfully persuaded them that if they (the sons) were united they would be as strong as a bundle of sticks. But if they are separated from each other like open sticks, they will be as weak as a separate stick. He therefore advised them to remain united at all times and not to quarrel with each other in the future.

The boys understood everything and vowed not to quarrel or do bad things among themselves. In this way, the old farmer can effectively teach his sons the valuable proverb, "Together we can stand against various problems, but when separated we become extremely weak to others."

Moral: Unity is a ‘mantra’ that gives strength to all
