Mark Margolis, the American Actor on ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul,’ Dies at 83
Mark Margolis, who played Hector Salamanca in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has died at the age of 83 in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles. Margolis's death was announced on Twitter by his manager, Sam Maydew. He had been battling cancer for several years.
Margolis was born in 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He began his acting career in the early 1970s, appearing in films such as The Godfather Part II and Scarface. He also had a recurring role on the soap opera One Life to Live.
In 2008, Margolis was cast as Hector Salamanca in Breaking Bad. Salamanca was a wheelchair-bound drug lord who was known for his distinctive bell, which he rang to summon his henchmen. Margolis's performance as Salamanca was critically acclaimed, and he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2010.
Margolis continued to play Salamanca in Better Call Saul, which is a prequel to Breaking Bad. He appeared in the show's sixth and final season, which aired in 2022.
Margolis's death is a loss to the acting community. He was a talented actor who brought a great deal of depth and complexity to his roles. He will be remembered for his work on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, as well as his other films and television shows.
